NTENSIVE THREE-DAY COURSE IN JAPANESE MUSIC
AUGUST 16-18, 2016

英語による集中講義「日本音楽概論」
2016年8月16日（火）〜18日（木）

　This short-short course will introduce many of the genres of traditional Japanese music that have been transmitted to the present and are still actively performed. The course will also discuss the varied ways of experiencing musical modernity in the context of the overwhelming dominance of western music in Japan. It will provide an accessible overview of Japanese music culture for non-Japanese participants, including performers, composers and musicologists. It is also intended for Japanese participants who are interested in an international perspective on Japanese music.
　The major genres include gagaku, shomyo, and shakuhachi and koto music. The narrative genres of heike and jyoruri and their place in the noh, bunraku and kabuki theatres will be introduced. Practical encounter with some genres during learning sessions.

「邦楽＠京都芸大」は英語による日本音楽概論で、京都市立芸術大学音楽学部の単位取得のための集中講座であると同時に、日本在住外国人をふくむ一般市民、そして広く海外に向けた集中講座である。内容は、古くから伝承されてきた日本の音楽とその近代的発展を英語で講義するもので、雅楽、声明、そして平家・浄瑠璃とそれが能・文楽・歌舞伎に占める位置、さらに三味線音楽・箏曲・尺八楽とその合奏について述べる。参加者は、英語で日本音楽を説明するという課題をこなすことにより、異文化理解で注意すべき点について認識を深められる。さらに、ワークショップで実技を経験する。 この講座は、学生や中学・高校の音楽の先生、一般市民には、「自分たち」の音楽にあらためて触れる機会、外国からの研究者、作曲者、演奏家には、日本の音楽文化を総合的に知る機会となり、全体として日本の伝統音楽の魅力を伝えられるものと願っている。
